A very important aspect of SUPRAPICTORIALISM is that it considers Art as an alternative to religion. Several philosophers have supported this view, including Hegel, who in his philosophical system gave art an important place as a vehicle for truth and human self-awareness, and even spoke of a “Religion of Art.” Schopenhauer also saw art as a means of escape from the suffering of the world and a way to access a transcendent reality, albeit from a pessimistic perspective. Furthermore, Nietzsche, although critical of Christian morality, saw art as a vital and creative force capable of overcoming decadent values and generating new ones, with the artist creating his or her own set of values. Finally, it should be added that Heidegger viewed the work of art as a space where being manifests and reveals itself, as opposed to the mere representation of objects. Art is not limited to beauty or perfection, but is a place where the truth of being is established, allowing the world to open up and reveal itself.
